Selling your catalytic converter.

Selling your catalytic converter

At LaJoie’s, we purchase used catalytic converters based on the market price of the individual converter. The catalytic converter is an integral piece of your vehicle’s exhaust system and is comprised of a combination of various metals that may have value.

Our business is located in the state of Connecticut, which is on the forefront of preventing catalytic converter thefts from vehicles within the state. Our converter purchasing practices coincide with the latest laws in effect. Learn more below.

What you need.

A valid ID.

As with all scrap metal purchases, we are required to obtain a copy of a valid form of picture ID from you (the seller) at the time of the transaction when purchasing catalytic converters.

Proof of ownership.

The State of Connecticut requires that the seller of a catalytic converter must be the legal owner of the vehicle the converter has been removed from. To prove this, we require a tax bill, current registration, or the vehicle’s title that matches the ID presented.

Seller’s statement.

We have created a form that needs to be filled out with every catalytic converter purchase to gather all necessary documentation as required by law.

You can download a copy of this form here.

In addition to these items, and other pieces of information gathered from you on drop-off, we are legally only able to purchase one catalytic converter per person, per day. We will then mail a check to your home address for the value of the catalytic converter.
